Literary Society of North Okanagan 16th Annual Spelling Bee
The Literacy Society’s executive director Debbie Nurse chaired the 16th annual Spelling Bee, which took place on October 22nd under the (s)wordsmanship of MC Chris Pardell. After Debbie’s brief description of the wonderful work done by the Society’s volunteers in the various programs, Chris launched the participants into a practice round, followed by three rounds of spelling competition. Chris then tricked the participants into a tie-breaking round, later telling us there had been no tie! CFUW Vernon’s 6 team members were joined by Deborah, a member of the public. Together our team scored 3rd place in a field of 20.
There was much interplay between Chris and the participants, door prizes abounded and the Society’s volunteers ran the event with speed and good humour. It was a thoroughly enjoyable time. Congratulations to the wonderful people at the Literacy Society and all the sponsors for a terrific happening! https://www.literacysociety.ca/
